Szechenyi Baths history

  • Szechenyi Thermal bath was the first thermal bath in Pest and owes its existence to Vilmos Zsigmondy, a pioneering mining engineer. His successful deep drillings in the City Park in 1881 led to the establishment of an "Artesian bath."
  • As the demands of the era evolved, the temporary bath became insufficient, prompting the construction of the Szechenyi spa baths in Budapest in 1913, based on designs by Gyozo Czigler.
  • The bath was expanded in 1927 to include separate bathing sections for men and women, along with an outdoor area. Further transformations in the 1960s added a new thermal section and a daytime hospital. The pools of Budapest Szechenyi spa were upgraded with water filtering and circulation systems in 1999, ensuring a modern, hygienic experience.
