The Ottomans built the Rudas Baths after conquering Hungary in the 16th century. Their superior architectural skills are reflected in the Hammam’s construction and can be seen in the Turkish Bath even today. Sokollu Mustafa, the pasha of Buda, rebuilt the bathhouse between 1566 and 1572 and is the foremost name associated with the Bath’s construction.

The Bath underwent multiple renovations over the centuries due to neglect and World War Two damage. The Turkish Bath with its Islamic architecture remained the core of the complex but modern amenities kept being added. The swimming pool and sauna were built in 1896. The latest addition was the rooftop pool in 2014.

The medicinal thermal waters of Rudas Baths are from three springs - Hungaria, Attila, and Juventus. Minerals like sulfate, magnesium, sodium, calcium, and fluoride ions are the reason for the water’s healing properties believed to treat joint issues, calcium deficiency, spinal cord issues, and neuralgia. You can also drink it from the water fountains.

Turkish Bath 

The centerpiece of Rudas Baths is the 16th-century Turkish bath, featuring an octagonal pool beneath a 10-meter diameter dome supported by eight pillars. This historic section retains its original Ottoman design, offering a traditional bathing experience with pools of varying temperatures ranging from 28°C to 42°C. ​

Thermal pools

Rudas houses six thermal pools, each filled with mineral-rich waters believed to have therapeutic properties. The water contains sulfate, calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate, and fluoride ions, which are said to aid in treating joint illnesses, spinal problems, and calcium deficiencies. ​

Rooftop panorama pool

The Rudas rooftop pool offers a one-of-a-kind open-air soaking experience with stunning views of the Danube River, Elizabeth Bridge, and Budapest’s skyline. Heated to a soothing 36°C, it’s especially popular at sunset or during night bathing, combining relaxation with breathtaking scenery.

Wellness world

Rudas Baths offers a range of wellness services, including gentle or invigorating massages, as well as medically prescribed treatments like medical pool/tub baths, underwater jet massages, and more. Swimming pool

Medical pool bath

Rudas Thermal Bath complex was established in 1550 during the Ottoman rule of Hungary, commissioned by Sokollu Mustafa Pasha, the governor of Buda. The bathhouse was designed to reflect the grandeur of similar Ottoman constructions in Istanbul, featuring a central dome and octagonal pool.

For centuries, it served as both a public bath and a place of healing, thanks to its mineral-rich thermal waters. Even after numerous renovations, including major restorations in 2006 and modern additions in 2014, Rudas Baths has preserved its historic core while evolving into a modern wellness destination, blending centuries-old bathing traditions with contemporary spa experiences.
